Izma Mohmed

17, Winona County
2026-27 Trailblazer Fellow

Izma is an aspiring healthcare professional passionate about expanding access to quality healthcare and fostering compassionate communities through service and education. Guided by empathy and cultural understanding, she hopes to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals locally and globally through her future career in medicine.

Beyond the classroom, Izma is actively involved in her school and community while pursuing her goal of earning an associate’s degree before graduating high school and gaining experience as a private CNA. She participates in speech, tennis, and marching colorguard, where she discovered her passion for leadership and helped establish her school’s first Pep Guard team alongside her friends. From 2022–2025, Izma interned with Winona County’s Alcohol Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) program and contributed to CADCA’s Coalition Evaluation Services Youth Prevention Champion focus groups, strengthening her leadership skills and commitment to community wellness.

Through this fellowship, Izma will participate in a medical and public health internship in Thailand, gaining clinical experience, learning from healthcare professionals, and exploring Eastern and Western medicine. This experience will deepen her understanding of healthcare while developing skills needed for her future healthcare career.

Izma lives by the quote, “The greatest way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,” attributed to Mahatma Gandhi. She believes compassion and service are central to healthcare. Through her dedication to mental health advocacy and community wellness, Izma hopes to create a world where individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and equitable access to care.
