About the Ann Bancroft Foundation

For 24 years, the Ann Bancroft Foundation (ABF) has supported Minnesota girls in grades K-12 to realize their highest dreams.

ABF strives to eliminate barriers for girls to achieve their dreams and offers tools that will allow a girl to feel supported along the way. Through grants, mentorship, and ongoing development opportunities, ABF gives Minnesota girls the strength to imagine something bigger and achieve their full potential. To date, ABF has awarded more than $2 million in grants to over 5200 girls throughout Minnesota.

ABF exemplifies the spirit of explorer and educator Ann Bancroft, whose leadership and personal and historic achievements have inspired many to courageously take on new challenges. Bancroft organized and led the first-known all-woman expedition to Antarctica, becoming the first woman to reach both Poles across the ice.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a key partner to the Executive Director, the Development Director is responsible for strategic planning and day-to-day management of ABF’s fundraising activities, including the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of institutional and individual donors.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Fundraising

  • Plan and lead a robust annual and long-term development strategy to include individual and institutional funding
  • Implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship initiatives to ensure ABF will maintain and surpass its revenue goals
  • Raise the profile of ABF among foundations and community leaders; build, maintain, and lead relationships with key donors and prospects; represent ABF at external events as needed
  • Conduct prospect research, management of funding pipeline, and management of grants calendar to support fundraising goals
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Development Committee, Program Manager, and Marketing Manager to create compelling donor-facing communications, including the creation of the Annual Report, and other materials, to increase ABF visibility and support fundraising activities
  • Implement a stewardship program that establishes a long-term relationship between our supporters and the organization that leads to increased support and financial sustainability

Events

  • Lead donor engagement and appreciation events, including event planning, communications, sponsors, and volunteer management
  • Evaluate the success of existing events and continually identify opportunities for enhancements and adjustments

Administration

  • Manage development budget, scorecard, and reporting
  • Manage donor database and fundraising operations. Assume primary responsibility for all gift processing. Ensure timely donor receipts and acknowledgments
  • Record, report, and reconcile donor contributions, including grant reports, in compliance with donor management best practices, and applicable state and federal laws
  • May supervise staff and development consultants as required

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The Development Director must believe in and be a passionate advocate for ABF’s mission. A strong applicant will possess these qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Professional Experience Required. (5) five years of professional experience, with at least (3) three years in development-related activities with demonstrated and quantifiable success in achieving fundraising goals and working with volunteers. Proven track record of effective gift solicitation, donor communications, events, and fundraising operations management. Experience working with Customer Relationship Management systems (CRMs). Proficient use of Microsoft Office and other current technologies.

Inclusion. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and social justice.

Schedule Flexibility. Able to occasionally work early mornings, evenings and weekends. This position is currently remote to hybrid but expected to transition to the office when able.

Travel. Able to travel in Minnesota several times during the year.
