A high school senior from Slayton, Minn., Whitney Staples Buesgens reaches out to kids, offering grief support. Affected by the suffering of children who lost loved ones during the attacks on 9/11, she created Camp Love’s Embrace, a retreat for grieving children.
From establishing childcare centers in Minnesota, to rebuilding villages and restoring hopes in Kenya and Uganda, Mary Steiner Whelan provides help to some of the people who need it most. Among her accomplishments includes "Give Us Wings," a nonprofit organization she created to help African families to become self-sufficient and overcome poverty.
Knowing that public awareness would hold the criminal justice system more accountable, Jacquelyn Hauser co-founded WATCH, a court monitoring program that focuses on criminal cases of sexual assault and domestic abuse, and holds offenders accountable. Her work is dedicated to change both attitudes about crimes against women and children and the systems that address them.
Founded in 1999 in Duluth, Minn., Dads and Daughters (DADs) is the only organization in the country that specifically addresses the influence and potential of the daughter-father relationship. Led by President Joe Kelly, DADs inspires fathers to actively and deeply engage in the lives of their daughters, and galvanizes fathers and others to transform the pervasive cultural messages that devalue girls and women.
